100 Years Ago - a Weekly Selection from Mary Berenson's Diaries

As May opens we will be launching “One Hundred Years Ago,” a weekly posting of excerpts from Mary Berenson’s diaries dating one century earlier. Mary’s diaries offer intimate sketches of her and Bernard’s lives, their research, the artworks they saw or collected, their friends, readings, and travels. They allow us to capture glimpses of the fascinating and vibrant world of I Tatti as it was during Mary’s time.

“100 Years Ago” forms part of a larger I Tatti project involving the publication of the extensive set of Mary’s diaries held by the Berenson Library. Digital images of pages from the more than thirty volumes will be flanked by transcriptions of the texts in order to facilitate reading and research. Notes relating to characters, places, and artworks will also be provided.
