Biography

Paolo Savoia has studied philosophy in Bologna and Pisa and is currently a PhD candidate in History of Science at Harvard University, where his research has focused on the history of medieval and early modern medicine and dietetics, the history of the body, and the history of Renaissance anatomy. His dissertation addresses the relationships between techniques of surgical reconstruction of the human face and forms of masculinities in sixteenth-century Italy, and especially in the city of Bologna. At I Tatti he will focus on the visual culture of the male face and its relationships with moral and social integrity and the medical perception of a healthy body.
