I Tatti Mourns the Loss of its Fourth Director, Louise George Clubb
I Tatti is mourning the loss earlier this month of its fourth director, Louise George Clubb, who held the post from 1985 until 1988.

Formerly Professor of Comparative Literature and and Dean of Humanities in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Berkeley, her books include Giambattista della Porta, Dramatist (1965) and Italian Drama in Shakespeare’s Time (1989).

Professor Clubb was initially drawn to I Tatti as a place where "minds meet freely and where the very environment brings them together and offers them food for thought." She found her years at I Tatti rewarding and described the Harvard Center as "a rare institution that all Renaissance scholars should cherish."

Professor Clubb is warmly remembered by all those who knew her here in Florence and by her friends in the wider I Tatti community.
