Biography
Carlos Plaza was trained as an architect at the University of Seville and Florence (B.Arch and M.Arch, University of Seville, 2008) and received his PhD from both Universities in 2013, with a thesis on Florentine Renaissance Architecture. He now collaborates with both universities in both a teaching and research capacity. He has expanded his studies in other Italian institutions such as the CISA Palladio and also attended courses taught by professor Howard Burns at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. His research interests focus on the history of European architecture from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries, with particular interest in the Early Modern Architecture in Spain and Italy.
Project Summary
The research project focuses on the work of the Florentine Renaissance artist Jacopo Torni, l’Indaco. Of particular interest is his Italian period and his role in the export of late Renaissance art to Spain, together other better known Spanish artists and architects who were also trained in Italy Siloe, Berruguete, Machuca and Ordoñez.
