On October 16, I Tatti hosted the world premiere of The Carp, an original operetta created by composer Martin Brody and art historian Dario Gamboni. A recording of the performance is now available to watch online.
Inspired by an extraordinary story reported in The New York Times in 2003 — of a carp said to have spoken Hebrew in a New York fish market — the work moves between music, theatre and storytelling, exploring the boundaries between belief and imagination, the sacred and the comic.
The Carp has a special connection to I Tatti. Born from a friendship between Brody and Gamboni during their time as Visiting Professors, the project returned to the place where it first took shape for a unique performance bringing together an international ensemble of musicians.
