I Tatti Appoints Dr. Caroline Duroselle-Melish as Head of the Library

I Tatti is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Caroline Duroselle-Melish as Head of the Library.

Familiar to many in the I Tatti community from her time as Smyth Fellow in Spring 2025, Dr. Duroselle-Melish brings a remarkable combination of scholarly accomplishment and extensive experience in special collections and research libraries across the United States.

Born and educated in France, she has held positions at the University of Michigan (Special Collections), the University of Rochester (as Rare Book Librarian), and Harvard’s Houghton Library, where she served for twelve years as Assistant Curator in the Department of Printing and Graphic Arts. Most recently, she spent a decade at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., where she was Andrew W. Mellon Curator of Early Modern Books and Prints and Associate Librarian for Collection Care and Development.

In addition to her curatorial work, Dr. Duroselle-Melish is a historian of the Renaissance and early print culture. Her research spans subjects ranging from education in North Africa in the imperial period (based on epigraphic sources), to Ulisse Aldrovandi’s illustrations for his unpublished magnum opus, to the history and materiality of the early book. She has also made notable contributions to the field of library science having been President of the Bibliographical Society of America (2022–2024), and has long been active as a teacher and participant in international scholarly forums.

Dr. Duroselle-Melish will begin her new role at I Tatti on November 15, 2025. We are pleased to welcome her back and look forward to the expertise and leadership she will bring to the Biblioteca Berenson.
