We are delighted to announce that I Tatti has received a significant donation from Avv. Paolo Fresco to endow a Fellowship in African Studies. A long-time neighbour and a friend of I Tatti who has followed our activities closely for several years, Avv. Fresco is also an important collector of art from Renaissance through contemporary. He has been extremely enthusiastic about our initiatives in the area of African Studies and in fact the endowment of this fellowship reinforces our ongoing Africa & the Renaissance project. The fellowship will be named after Avv. Fresco and his late wife Marlène, who was from Mauritius and very much a lover of Renaissance art and culture. The Marlène and Paolo Fresco Fellowship in African Studies will be a six-month appointment awarded annually to a post-doctoral scholar whose research interests focus on the relationship between Africa and the territories surrounding the Mediterranean in the Renaissance/early modern period.
