Special Collections Library Access and Guidelines
The special collections include manuscripts, rare books, photographs and photo albums, archives, and rare auction catalogs.
WHO CAN USE THE BERENSON LIBRARY’S SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
Anyone with a legitimate need may request access to the Berenson Library’s Special Collections. It is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To consult material in Special Collections please follow this three-step process:

Register as a library reader: click here to apply for library access. Registration must be made at least two working days in advance of your visit.

Make an appointment to use the reading room. This is a separate process from specifying the date of consultation when you submit your request for materials. To make an appointment GO TO reserve your place in the Ahmanson Reading Room .

Request materials at least one working day in advance of your visit. If you do not request your materials on time, there will be a significant delay in preparation and delivery. To find and request materials GO TO https://library.harvard.edu/how-to/research-special-collections-and-archives
Space for consulting Special Collections materials in the Ahmanson Reading Room is limited; appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. For recurrent visits, it is necessary to repeat steps 2 and 3.
