Project Summary

This project is a comparative study of the early post-Byzantine manuscript production in Western Europe (mainly Italy) and on ex-Byzantine territory. It aims at giving a representative portrayal of Greek copying activity after the Fall of Constantinople up to circa 1500, and examines the significance of this activity for the continuation of Greek/Byzantine culture at a time of its doom.
