Floreat Musica

The project Floreat musica aims to create an extensive digital repository of Renaissance music manuscripts preserved in Florence, displaying them in a platform that will bring together digitized reproductions, rich cataloging metadata, related scholarly resources, and eventually much more, drawing on linked open data technologies.  Starting in the fall of 2021 with the scanning and cataloging of the exceptional collections of the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze, it aspires over time to include as many sources as possible from other local archives and libraries.  Together these institutions hold one of the greatest concentrations in the world of Renaissance music in manuscript form, attesting to the city’s vibrant musical culture, in both the sacred and secular realms, between the 14^th and the 17^th centuries.  As the platform matures, we envision it also as an innovative forum for promoting and hosting new scholarly research and performance centered on the musical culture of late medieval and early modern Florence.
