Biography

Philippa Jackson is a graduate of history from Durham University. After working as a lawyer in London and Paris, she was employed as a conference consultant for the British Council in Rome before returning to England to pursue an M.A. in Combined Historical Studies at the Warburg Institute, followed by a Ph.D. on the patronage of the Sienese ‘tyrant’ Pandolfo Petrucci (1452-1512). Her interdisciplinary interests led to work on the 2007 National Gallery of London’s exhibition Renaissance Siena: Art for a City. She has taught both Renaissance history and art history courses at the University of London.

Project Summary

Girolamo Ghinucci (1480-1541), judge of the Apostolic Chamber and Renaissance diplomat, is at the centre of research on Sienese patronage networks between Italy, England and Spain. A particular focus of this study is Ghinucci's role in Henry VIII’s attempted divorce from Catherine of Aragon and his position at the papal court under Clement VII.
