Biography

Mariano Pérez Carrasco is Research Associate at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (Conicet) and Assistant Professor of Medieval Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires. His research interests focus on the links between philosophy, literature and politics, especially in Dante’s minor works, the rise of a vulgar authorial selfhood, and methodological problems of historiography in the fields of both literature and philosophy. He has conducted postdoctoral studies at the University of Padova and was guest at the University of Bologna, where he lectured on Dante’s cultural project in Convivio.

Project Summary

This project studies the emergence of a novel type of intellectual figure in Dante’s Italy. These intellectuals, on the one hand, engaged simultaneously in both poetry and philosophy (often a kind of philosophical poetry), and on the other hand, their lives were also characterized by a strong political engagement.
