Biography
Pablo González Tornel (Ph. D. in 2005) is Associate Professor of Art History at the Jaume I University (Castellón). His main research interest is the Spanish Baroque and its Italian connections and, specifically, the ceremonies and festivals celebrated by the Spanish community in Early Modern Italy. His most recent monographs are La fiesta barroca. Los virreinatos americanos (1555-1808) (2012), Los Habsburgo. Arte y propaganda en la colección de grabados de la Biblioteca Casantense de Roma (2013) and La fiesta barroca. Los reinos de Nápoles y Sicilia (2014).
Project Summary
This project focuses on the study of ceremonies and festivals celebrated by the Spanish community in Early Modern Rome and the architectural, sculptural and pictorial productions linked to them. These rituals and spectacles, supported principally by the Spanish ambassadors and the national religious institutions, will be analyzed in depth and connected with their socio-historical context and the cultural processes involved.
